S-H-O-C-K-E-R: Le Guen has not applied for Eagles job – Technical Committee
Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Chris Green has denied any knowledge of the employment of Frenchman Paul Le Guen to tinker the Super Eagles.
In an exclusive interview with Us, Green revealed that the former coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon who qualified them for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa has not applied to coach the Nigerian national team. ‘’As the chairman of the Technical Committee whose responsibility it is to interview and employ coaches for the Super Eagles, there is no application from Le Guen to manage the Eagles. I don’t know where these stories of Le Guen are coming from. He has not applied. All I know is that the job of the Super Eagles coach must be thrown open for the right qualified person. And such a successful coach must show the desire of coaching in Nigeria. We are in a dilemma right now and must do the right thing to get it right. We cannot toy with the emotions of millions of Nigerians’’,Green, who described the coming of Le Guen as a ‘’rumour’’, said. ‘’The Technical Committee of the NFF is made up of knowledgeable people, most of them who played football at the highest level. We have names like Christian Chukwu, Chief Adeboye Onigbinde, Victor Ikpeba, Garba Lawal, Paul Bassey and others. These gentlemen can confirm to you if we have received any application from Le Guen. I don’t want to get worked up on this matter. This was how they brought Sunday Oliseh and we are witnesses to what happened to our football. We must get things right now. Our opponents, Algeria, have employed a coach and we should avoid the mistake of employing a coach who will not have a conducive atmosphere to operate in. That will not be good for Nigerian football’’, Green emphasised.
