Okocha, Kanu endorse Star/Euro clubs partnership

Former Super Eagles skippers, Nwankwo Kanu and Austin Jay Jay Okocha stole the show at the official unveiling of Star larger beer partnership with five top European clubs in a colourful ceremony at Eko Hotel and Suites, Wednesday night. The duo who, in their active days played with some of the clubs in the Star beer partnership were the cynosure of all eyes as some of the visiting club representatives couldn’t stop talking about their exploits with their clubs. Kanu played for Arsenal and won many laurels with the club. He became a cult figure with the London club and left at the end of the unbeaten season, joined West Brom. When he was called to speak on what he felt about Star partnering Arsenal, among others, Kanu said, “the partnership will benefit not just the club and Star, it will also yield positive results to the consumers and the generality of Nigerians. This is a welcome development.” On his part, Austin Jay Jay Okocha who once laced his boots for Paris Saint Germain was all smiles when he stepped onto the podium. Receiving applause from the jam-packed hall Okocha expressed joy that a Nigerian brand could take such a step to sign a partnership deal with not one but five top European clubsides. He was happier that PSG, a club he referred to as “special” was among the clubs. “In my playing days, I had dreamt of a situation where the clubs I played for could provide the desired platforms for other Nigerian youths. Today, Star has brought the clubs down to Nigeria and Nigerians will be the better for it.” He commended Nigeria Breweries for “the giant step to bring European clubs closer to their Nigerian fans.” Star Wednesday announced partnership deals with Arsenal, Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain, Juventus and Real Madrid.
