15 year old girl in Nepal dies inside 'menstruation hut' after she's separated from community

A 15 year old girl from Gajra village in western Nepal's Achham district has died from smoke inhalation after she was separated from her community because she was menstruating and left to sleep in a menstruation hut in Nepal.
“Chhaupadi” which is the name given to the menstruation hut, is a practice in which women are banished during menstruation in Western Nepal.
During Chhaupadi, a practice that dates back hundreds of years ago, girls are kept in small huts with no doors, poor sanitation and poor ventilation and are forbidden from touching other people, livestock, fruits and plants.

According to Achham district police inspector, Badri Prasad Dhakal, 10 other girls have died in the lst 9 years from the isolation and exposure to environmental factors when left in the menstruation hut while practicing Chhaupadi.
"Deaths are usually caused by smoke inhalation, snake bites (and) lack of basic health care during menstruation," Badri Prasad said.

Read a 2011 United Nations report on the practice below;
''Girls are not allowed to drink milk or eat milk products and their access to water taps and wells is limited.
"Some in the Far West still believe that a God or Goddess may be angered if the practice is violated, which could result in a shorter life, the death of livestock or destruction of crops,"
"It is believed by some that if a woman touches fruits, they will fall before they are ripe. If she fetches water, the well will dry up."
'Girls are even banned from reading, writing or touching books during menstruation so they won't anger Saraswati, the goddess of education.

The billionaire divorcee who messed her face up with plastic surgery

Jocelyn Wildenstein, 76, holds the record for the highest ever divorce settlement in history. When she split from her billionaire husband of 21 years, Alec Wildenstein in 1999, she was awarded $2.5billion and $100million every year for 13 years. Plastic surgery has left her looking not-so-human and has led to her being nicknamed 'cat woman'.

She was in the news this week for domestic violence. She attacked her Canadian-born fashion designer boyfriend of 13 years, Lloyd Klein, 49, because he was on his laptop and wasn't paying her attention. She allegedly gouged him in the face with her nails and stabbed his chest with a pair of scissors.

At the time of her divorce, Alec said of her numerous cosmetic procedures:
'She was crazy. I would always find out last. She was thinking that she could fix her face like a piece of furniture. Skin does not work that way. But she wouldn’t listen,' said Alec at the time.

Couple arrested for having sex in a parked car with child in the backseat

A Connecticut couple 28-year-old Kimberly Onorato and 27-year-old Rory Clark were arrested by the police after cops say they were caught having sex while parked outside a McDonald's with a toddler in the backseat of the car.
Police say both of them were having sex in the parking lot of McDonald's in Orange, Connecticut, this week when employees called authorities to the scene.

When Orange Police Department officers arrived, employees told them they were leaving work after their shifts ended at about 9 p.m. when they noticed the car parked in the lot with two people cuddling and making out in front seat.

In a statement issued by the Police, they said:
"Employees said a child was in the back seat. These two people appeared to be engaged in sexual activity in the front seats of the car while a small child was seated in the back, watching."
Police say the child was alert and aware of what was going on in front of him. They also said Onorato was partially undressed when they arrived.

However, the couple reportedly told police that they did not have sex, rather they had only been‘cuddling’ after eating in the restaurant earlier.

Both Onorato and Clark were arrested and charged with breach of peace in the second degree and impairing morals of a minor.

The child was taken from the scene and placed into the custody of a relative.

The incident was also reported to the local Department of Children and Families. They are scheduled to appear in front of a judge next month, according to the clerk of courts.

Obama to host Trump at White House

A triumphant Donald Trump heads to the White House Thursday for talks with President Barack Obama on securing a smooth transition of power and steading nerves after an election that shocked the world. Anger over the Trump win spilled out on the streets of cities from New York to Los Angeles late Wednesday as chanting protesters lit bonfires and snarled traffic. In one case an orange-headed Trump head was burned in effigy. ADVERTISING inRead invented by Teads Forty-eight hours after Trump’s upset win, the 70-year-old president-elect and Obama will meet in the Oval Office for what could be an awkward meeting as the president-elect looks ahead to the January 20 inauguration.
Trump has questioned whether Obama was born in the United States — a suggestion laden with deep racial overtones — and the Democratic commander-in-chief has described the celebrity businessman as “uniquely unqualified” to be president. But the last day has seen efforts to bring this deeply divided country together after a brutal two-year battle for the White House that at times appeared more tribal than partisan. Vanquished Democratic rival Hillary Clinton fought back the bitter disappointment of not becoming America’s first female president to urge Americans to give Trump a chance, at least from the outset. “We owe him an open mind and the chance to lead,” she said in a concession speech. Obama, addressing disconsolate staff in the White House Rose Garden, played down the extraordinary Trump win, painting it as democracy being its messy self. “Sometimes you lose an argument,” he said, adding that all Americans would now be “rooting” for Trump’s success. “We are Americans first. We’re patriots first. We all want what’s best for this country,” Obama said as staff wiped away tears and pondered whether his administration’s eight years of toil had come to naught. In the battle for the soul of America, those who helped elect America’s first black president now appear to be in retreat. Both Obama and Clinton issued a faint but definite warning that Trump must respect institutions and the rule of law if a modicum of goodwill is to hold. In remarks that would once have seemed unthinkable, the president of the world’s foremost democracy and military power subtly urged his successor to respect the 240-year-old system of governance and its institutions. “The country,” Obama said “needs a sense of unity, a sense of inclusion, a respect for our institutions, our way of life, rule of law, and a respect for each other.” White House spokesman Josh Earnest demurred when asked whether Trump would respect the rule of law. His tone “would seem to suggest that certain basic principles of our democracy are likely to be upheld.” – Brave new world – “Likely” is unlikely clear enough for Washington’s partners who see the entire global political order, which hinges on Washington’s moral and military leadership, as cast into doubt. German Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared to take on the mantle of champion of liberal values and “leader of the free world,” an epithet usually reserved for American presidents. She warned that “close cooperation” between the two countries must be based on shared democratic values, and reminded Trump of the global responsibility he carries. “On the basis of these values, I offer close cooperation to the future president of the United States of America, Donald Trump.” Europe, already beset by financial and social crises and internal divisions, now faces existential questions about its own security. Trump has questioned the US-led NATO’s key collective defense guarantee. The leaders of America’s closest hemispheric partners, Canada and Mexico, quickly made clear their willingness to work with the new president, offering a message of continuity and stability with their giant neighbor. Mexico’s President Enrique Pena Nieto reached out to the president-elect, agreeing to a meeting. – ‘Redemption, not recrimination’ – The Republican Party leadership, too, embraced their newfound champion. House Speaker Paul Ryan, who had distanced himself from Trump in the final month of the campaign, pledged to “hit the ground running” and work with him on conservative legislation. But Ryan also called for healing, saying the bitterly contested race must be followed by a period “of redemption, not a time of recrimination.” Likewise, Trump called for national reconciliation after Clinton conceded defeat in a result that virtually no poll had dreamed of predicting. He told a crowd of jubilant supporters early Wednesday in New York “it is time for America to bind the wounds of division” as he pledged to work with Democrats in office. On Wednesday Trump huddled at Trump Tower in New York with a group of advisers, planning the transition to running the world’s largest economy when he takes office on January 20. During a bitter campaign that tugged at America’s democratic fabric, the tycoon pledged to deport illegal immigrants, ban Muslims from the country and tear up free-trade deals. Trump’s campaign message was embraced by a large section of America’s white majority, grown increasingly disgruntled by the scope of social and economic change under Obama. But it was passionately rejected by Clinton supporters. Thousands of protesters — in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Portland and other cities — rallied late Wednesday to express shock and anger over Trump’s election. They vowed to oppose divisive views they say helped the Republican billionaire win the White House. In Washington, several hundred gathered in front of the White House for a candlelight vigil on a damp, chilly evening, criticizing what they called Trump’s racism, sexism and xenophobia, and carrying signs reading “We have a voice!” and “Education for all!” Some of the most enthusiastic support for Trump came from far-right and nationalist politicians in Europe such as French opposition figure Marine Le Pen, Matteo Salvini of Italy’s Northern League and British euroskeptic Nigel Farage. Russia’s autocratic leader Vladimir Putin said he wanted to rebuild “full-fledged relations” with the United States, as he warmly congratulated the president-elect.

Pope Francis warns against 'building walls' ahead of U.S presidential election

On Saturday evening, while addressing the Third World Meeting of Popular Movements at the Vatican, the Roman Catholic Pope, Pope Francis warned against building 'walls', saying tyranny doesn't find support unless it taps into people's fears.
Donald Trump's proposal to build a wall between the United States and Mexico has been a major focus point of his campaign mantra, but the Pope, without directly calling out the U.S Republican presidential candidate, stated clearly that 'all walls fall', saying God doesn't want a life of enclosure of banishment for his children.
"No tyranny finds support without tapping into our fears," Francis said.  "This is key. Hence, all tyranny is terrorist. And when this terror -- which was sown in the peripheries, with the massacres, looting, oppression and injustice -- explodes in centers with different forms of violence, even hateful and cowardly attacks, citizens who still retain some rights are tempted to the false security of physical or social walls. "Walls that enclose some and banish others.
Walled citizens, terrified on one side, excluded, exiled, and still more terrified on the other. Is that the life that our Father God wants for their children? "Dear brothers and sisters -- all walls fall. All of them. Do not be fooled."

Father sentenced to 1,503 years in prison for raping teenage daughter

A 41-year-old man in Fresno, Califonia was sentenced to 1,503 years in prison for raping his teenage daughter over a four-year period.

The man was sentenced Friday, October 21, to the longest-known prison sentence in Fresno Superior Court history. The Associated Press is not naming the man because it could identify his daughter. They also don't name victims of sexual abuse.

In announcing the punishment, Judge Edward Sarkisian Jr. told the man he is a "serious danger to society" and noted that he had never shown remorse and has blamed his daughter for his predicament.

The man's daughter was first sexually abused by a family friend but instead of protecting her, he turned her into "a piece of property," prosecutor Nicole Galstan said.

The victim was raped two to three times a week from May 2009 to May 2013, when the girl got the courage to leave him.

In September, a jury found him guilty of 186 felony counts of sexual assault, including dozens of rape of minor. The daughter, who is now 23 told the judge that her father has never shown remorse for her pain and suffering.
"When my father abused me, I was young. I had no power, no voice. I was defenseless,"
Before his preliminary hearing, he turned down two guilty pleas. If he had admitted  his guilt, prosecutors would have recommended 13 years in prison. But he rejected the offer, saying he should be released from jail for the time he already served.
"He ruined her teenage years and made her feel like it was her fault," Galstan said.

Photos: US Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay's 15-year-old daughter killed in shootout at a restaurant

American Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay’s teenage daughter was killed by stray bullet in an apparent shootout at a restaurant.

Trinity Gay, 15, a rising track star died after being shot in the neck at a restaurant in Kentucky in the early hours of Sunday morning, October 16th. Tyson Gay, who grew up in Lexington told local news site LEX 18:
"She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened."
The runner told reporters he was very close with his daughter, who was following in her dad's footsteps as a rising track star. Police in Lexington, where the fatal shooting happened, said it happened at around 4am 98am.
According to police, a group of men in two cars outside of the Cook Out restaurant began shooting at each other before speeding off.

It is thought Trinity was a bystander who was not in the vehicles, described as a Dodge Charger and a dark coloured sports car with tinted windows, when she was shot. Police say they believe they have found one of the cars that could be involved in this shooting and they are questioning possible suspects.

In a statement police said they are now investigating the early morning homicide.
Trinity ran as an athlete for Lafayette High School, making a name for herself locally with success as a 100m and 200m sprinter.
"She was so innocent, she was so innocent," her mother, Shoshana Boyd, told the Daily News in a tearful interview. "I just want people to stop shooting and realise who they 're hurting. It's just random. They don't understand who they are hurting"
She said her daughter wanted to become a surgeon and also hoped to match the Olympic glory of her father.
"I should never have to bury my own child," Boyd said. "She wanted to be the fastest woman in the world, and they took that away from her"
