Murray wins Vienna title, closes in on No 1

Andy Murray is closing in on tennis’ No.1 ranking after downing Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to claim his third straight ATP title at the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. The Scot can overtake Novak Djokovic atop the ATP rankings next week if he wins the Paris Masters and the Serb doesn’t reach the final. “I get a step closer with every win but it’s still a long way from here,” Murray said. From two to one seems a small jump in a way but it’s the hardest one to make. To go from 100 to 50 is more spots but is a lot easier.” Andy Murray In Sunday’s final, Murray defeated Tsonga 6-3 7-6 (6) for his personal-best seventh title of the season and 42nd overall. Djokovic has also won seven events this year. “I was thinking more about how you are going to win the match rather than what it would mean if you did win it. But obviously it’s nice to win my seventh tournament,” Murray said.” “A lot of them have come in the last few months. After the Australian Open I struggled a little bit for a couple of months but the last few months have been very good.”

Manufacturers Return To Black Market For Forex

The scarcity of foreign exchange from the official window has compelled some manufacturers to source funds from the black market in order to keep their business going.

In the coming months, affected manufacturing firms say consumers may have to pay about 100 per cent more than what they currently pay for locally manufactured products.

Some manufacturers say they have been on queue to access forex for a period ranging from six months to one year without making any progress.

“While you wait endlessly like this, your production suffers and you do not have products to sell to your customers,” the Managing Director of Mojec Metering, Chantel Abdul, said.

When In June, the Central Bank of Nigeria dropped its fixed exchange rate strategy and adopted a flexible exchange rate, the move was seen as one that would bring enough supply of forex.

Although the new official rate was put at N280, the President, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Frank Jacobs, agreed that though it was high but that there should be more dollars in circulation than in the previous months.

The Director General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Muda Yusuf, said of the policy, “The Chamber believes that this policy choice offers an improvement in the efficiency of foreign exchange allocation in the economy, improvement of liquidity in the foreign exchange market, reduction in the current trade arrears, reduction in the arrears of remittances.”

Contrary to all expectations, however, the foreign exchange market has become very illiquid and all efforts made to redeem the situation by the apex bank have yielded no respite to the manufacturing sector.

It was gathered that the CBN’s directive that 60 per cent of the forex supply in the system should go to the manufacturing sector had failed as manufacturers are unable to benefit from the policy months after the apex bank initiated it.

A reliable source in one of the commercial banks told our correspondent that banks were under a lot of pressure because of high forex demand from customers.

“There is very limited supply of forex and a lot of people are coming for the supply. The banks do not even have the forex not to talk of giving 60 per cent to a particular sector,” the source said.

An analyst and professor of Economics, Leo Ukpong, explained that the situation could not be helped, adding that the dollar was a foreign currency that Nigeria had no control over and so could not determine its supply or rate.

Already prices of some household items that are manufactured locally have been rising almost every day following the increase in the cost of production.

For instance, a tablet of toilet soap, which sold for between N25 and N30 a few months ago, was offered on Friday for N100; while the price of 1kg of Omo sachet had gone up to N600 from N350 two months ago.

A major household products manufacturer, PZ Cussons, said sometimes in April that it was producing with dollars sourced at the parallel market rate of N320, at a time when the Federal Government pegged the official exchange rate of the dollar at N197. The dollar currently exchanges for N450 to N470 at the parallel market

Man survives acid, machete attacks by assassins sent by wife

ABEOKUTA—Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, paraded a female banker, Oluchi Tochukwu, and two suspected hired assassins over a botched plot to kill her husband, identified as Onyebuchi Tochukwu. The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, while parading the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, explained that the 32-year-old banker, who is a staff of a new generation bank, allegedly masterminded the failed assassination of her estranged husband by arranging and keeping the weapons used in the attack in the husband’s compound in Ajah. The couple had been married for three years and had a daughter, before the union crashed. Iliyasu said the two suspected assassins, 32-year-old Chigozie Smart, and 36-year-old Kingsley Ikechukwu, were intercepted at Ijebu-Ode area of Ogun State, while attempting to escape to Onitsha, Anambra State, with the would-be victim’s Range Rover.
The attack The police boss explained that the two suspects had attacked their victim in his compound at Agungi area of Ajah in Lagos State, last Wednesday. He was allegedly attacked with iron rods and machete before the suspects poured acid on him. But he survived the attack. According to Iliyasu,”it was the smoke and the offensive odour that came out from the suit worn by the victim, when the acid touched it, that made the suspects to quickly abandon him and went away with his Range Rover SUV, which the wife instructed them to deliver to her brother in Anambra State. “The estranged couple had been separated for a while, with the wife living with her father somewhere in Ayobo area of Lagos State. “The husband had a date with a court today (yesterday) over the custody of their only daughter. Luck, however, ran against the suspected assassins when a Police Highway Patrol team flagged the Range Rover SUV down at the Ijebu-Ode axis of Lagos-Benin expressway for a stop-and-search operation, which led to their arrest.” Fielding questions from newsmen during their parade, Oluchi denied contracting the duo of Chigozie and Kingsley and one other, who is at large, to assassinate her estranged husband. Though she acknowledged that the three year-old marriage had crashed, Oluchi told newsmen that she had no reason to kill her husband. Meanwhile, during the interrogation, Chigozie maintained that it was Oluchi that contracted them to kill Tochukwu, with a promise of purchasing tokunbo cars for each of them after a successful operation.

Anambra hits 210, 000mt target in rice production – Commissioner

Awka – The Commissioner for Agriculture in Anambra, Mr Afam Mbanefo, said on Monday that the state has reached its target of achieving self-sufficiency in rice production. Mbanefo made the disclosure at a Commodity Alliance Forum/Consultative meeting organised by the state Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) in Awka. The commissioner recalled that the state government had earlier targeted 210, 000 metric tonnes of rice production per annum. “Based on the calculation of our expected yields, we are expecting to realise over 236, 000 metric tonnes of rice in 2016 based on the production capacity.’’ Mbanefo said the calculation was based on all the expected yields of 35 per cent of over 14, 300 farmers and the activities of programmes like the VCDP and FADAMA. He said the expected yield also included the activities of rice investors in the state including Coscharis farms, Joseph Agro and others. Mbanefo said the state government was passionate about revolutionising the agriculture and making it a wealth creation, especially for unemployed youths who were willing to venture into the sector. The commissioner, who said the state government ensured a linkage between farmers and off-takers, advised farmers who were yet to form cooperatives to do so in their own interest. Earlier, the National Programme Coordinator for VCDP, Mr Ameh Onoja, said the aim of the programme was to assist the Federal Government to reduce spending on the importation of rice. According to him, the overall goal is to ensure that rural poverty is reduced and to ensure accelerated economic growth is achieved on a sustainable and inclusive basis. Onoja, who was represented by Mr Basil Esinulo, said the project was developed to address some major constraints militating against agricultural development such as the poor organisation of farmers, processors and marketing. Other constraints, he said, included lack of rural infrastructure particularly rural roads, water supply and market as well as poor access to production and others. According to him, tremendous boost in rice production will be achieved to increase incomes and food security in the country. The Acting State Programme Coordinator for VCDP, Mr Bonaventure Mochebe, said the forum was organised to deliberate on issues that affected farmers and to seek ways to address the challenges. He said that the forum will link farmers with financial institutions, off-takers, Civil Society Organisations and other stakeholders in the rice business. Mochebe urged government to rescue farmers whose three hectares of rice farm land were destroyed by the Fulani herdsmen. He said on the sideline of the programme that Fulani herdsmen’s cattle had destroyed over three hectares of rice farm land. The forum also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), by the farmers, agro dealers and off-takers to strengthen their partnership and capacity of production.

Abuja Residents Decry Indecent Dressing In Places Of Worship

Abuja residents on Wednesday expressed reservation over the increasing indecent dressing by some people, especially the ladies, in places of worship in the FCT.

They told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the phenomenon which they described as alien to Africa was gradually becoming a norm in the territory.

According to them, the development has contributed to the increase in the rate of immorality and other ills plaguing the society.

A cleric, Fred Ogar of Revival Assembly Church, Abuja, said the trend was not healthy for the society.

Ogar called for immediate action to be taken by parents and guardians to nib the dangerous norm in the bud.

“The ugly act has taken a dangerous dimension in the society with young ladies often found in attires that reveal their body anatomy inside out.

“To many, the dressing pattern is often seen as being suggestive and more embarrassing is the fact those dresses are mostly transparent.

“Because of this in 2008, the then Chairman, Senate Committee on Women and Youths, Sen. Ufot Ekaete, presented a Bill on indecent dressing on the floor of the Senate.

“The Bill was entitled, “An Act to Prohibit and Punish Public Nudity, Sexual Intimidation, and Related Offences.

“It proposed a jail term of six months for offenders, but humanitarian organisations condemned the bill,’’ Ogar said.

Mrs Hilda Kumbin, a retired school principal and mother of five, also expressed concern over the development.

She said that it was unfortunate that sanctity had been thrown to the dogs by the new generation, unlike in her days.

“It is unfortunate that standard has fallen in the society and parents are not helping because they don’t have time for their children.

“There are many reasons why young girls come out in indecent dresses, but the most important I think has to do with self-esteem.

“When a young girl feels inadequate, lacking self-confidence, she will do anything to draw attention to herself and wearing indecent clothes could be her way of doing that.

“They forget that for every action there is a reaction; and that is why we have series of cases like rape.

“Most young women have fallen victims to rape because of the provocative dresses they put on.

“I believe that indecent dressing debases womanhood, because it tends to expose parts of the woman’s body that form her treasure.

“Our pride as women lies in hidden and protected treasure, but when a girl exposes it to the public, it reduces her worth and esteem.

“The men lose respect for her because there won’t be anything left for them to explore.

“Any man that will come after her will only be doing so out of lust and just to devour what she has displayed for him.

“Even if you are decent but decide to wear indecent clothes, people will insult you,’’ Kumbin said.

But, Anita Kyaagba, an undergraduate, said that it was nobody’s business on what she decided to wear.

She said:“we are living in a free world and so, we are free to wear anything we want, Besides, since you didn’t buy the clothes for me, who are you to tell me what to wear?

“I wear what makes me comfortable, as a young girl, I follow fashion trend.

“I wear the best in vogue and if it accentuates some parts of my body and my boyfriend likes it, I don’t see anything wrong in it`.’’

Chioma Eliogu, another student, told NAN that she had to stop attending a church in which she grew up because the ushers stopped her from entering the church because of what she wore.

“I wore a mini gown, which highlighted my hips and bust and the ‘old-fashioned’ usher refused to allow me enter the church.

“Since then, I decided to join another church that won’t judge me based on my dressing but my heart.

After all, the Lord sees the heart not the body; so, why should anybody judge me?”

Another cleric, John Ishaku, urged parents, especially mothers, to take much interest on their girl-child, and called on mothers that dress offensively to desist.

“Parents and adults must dress well and honourably as an example for younger generations.

“The mass media should promote good moral values and religious leaders must strongly preach against indecent dressing because you will be addressed by the way you are dressed.

“Christian parents must teach their children how to dress decently because that is what the Bible says.

Quoting from Bible, he said,“In like manner also, that woman adorns themselves in modest apparel, with shame facedness and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array.

“But (which becomes women professing godliness) with good works.”

Ishaku said “It is a sin for a lady dressing half-Unclad to walk in the street or come to church.’’

Malam Yahaya Abdulaziz, a Muslim cleric, also said that, “No good Muslim woman will dress indecently because it is clearly written in the Holy Quran.

“Tell the believing men that they shall subdue their eyes (and not stare at the women), and to maintain their chastity.

“This is purer for them. God is fully cognisant of everything they do,’’ Abdulaziz said.

Man Kills Wife, Daughter In Abuja Because He Couldn't Feed Them

A 40-year-old man from Okpoma village in Yala Local Government Area, Cross River State, Dominic Iyayi Ogar, has thrown his in-laws into mourning following the gruesome murder of his wife and their only daughter.

Ogar is alleged to have committed the dastardly act on October 8, 2016 in Mpape, Abuja. Sunday Sun reporter learnt from the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, Mr. Mohammed Mustafa, that Ogar, who slept with his wife and their only daughter on the same bed, woke up suddenly in the middle of the night, took a knife and stabbed both of them to death, and they died instantly.

Mustafa said that Ogar then carried the corpses of the dead 27-year-old wife, Omago and the daughter, two-year-old Blessing to a nearby nursery and primary school in the area; he allegedly wrote a small note and dropped it beside the corpses and then ran off to hide in his farm.

His evil deed, however, came to light when one of his neighbours, Destiny Onwusuaka, noticed a trail of blood that led to the door of the family house. In a chat with Sunday Sun reporter, Onwusuaka said: “It was around 7:00am when I discovered stains of blood on the floor and followed the trail to the door of Ogar. When I looked into the room, I saw a pool of blood but I didn’t see the husband or the victims.

“It was later that I saw the two corpses where the husband dropped them. I shouted and called our neighbours. We then ran to the police to report what we saw. We started searching for the husband. It took four days before we found him and arrested him in his farm on October 11, 2016.

Following the arrest of the suspect, the corpses of the deceased were moved to the mortuary of the National Hospital, Abuja.

At the Criminal Investigation Department of the FCT Police Command, where he spoke with Sunday Sun, Ogar said: “I don’t have a job, I cannot feed my family, I can only feed myself, and God should forgive me for what I have done.

“I don’t know what came to my mind; it was frustration that led me to stab my wife and only daughter to enable me survive in life.”

As it stands now, Mustafa said that Ogar’s hope of surviving in life now lies at the discretion of the court where he would soon be arraigned to answer charges.

Father sentenced to 1,503 years in prison for raping teenage daughter

A 41-year-old man in Fresno, Califonia was sentenced to 1,503 years in prison for raping his teenage daughter over a four-year period.

The man was sentenced Friday, October 21, to the longest-known prison sentence in Fresno Superior Court history. The Associated Press is not naming the man because it could identify his daughter. They also don't name victims of sexual abuse.

In announcing the punishment, Judge Edward Sarkisian Jr. told the man he is a "serious danger to society" and noted that he had never shown remorse and has blamed his daughter for his predicament.

The man's daughter was first sexually abused by a family friend but instead of protecting her, he turned her into "a piece of property," prosecutor Nicole Galstan said.

The victim was raped two to three times a week from May 2009 to May 2013, when the girl got the courage to leave him.

In September, a jury found him guilty of 186 felony counts of sexual assault, including dozens of rape of minor. The daughter, who is now 23 told the judge that her father has never shown remorse for her pain and suffering.
"When my father abused me, I was young. I had no power, no voice. I was defenseless,"
Before his preliminary hearing, he turned down two guilty pleas. If he had admitted  his guilt, prosecutors would have recommended 13 years in prison. But he rejected the offer, saying he should be released from jail for the time he already served.
"He ruined her teenage years and made her feel like it was her fault," Galstan said.

Recession: Dangote group sacks 48 workers

ABEOKUTA—No fewer than 48 workers have been allegedly sacked by Dangote Group due to the economic recession in the country. Vanguard gathered that those affected were 36 expatriate and 12 local staff serving in Dangote Cement Plc and Dangote Industries Limited. Further findings showed that the reason for their sack was in connection with the current high cost of running business in the country, occasioned by unavailability of foreign exchange and the unprecedented hike in exchange rate. In a letter signed by the President/CEO, Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, dated October 20, 2016 and obtained by our correspondent, Dangote stated that the group was constrained to take the ‘tough’ decision because of the present high cost of production. Alhaji Aliko Dangote The letter, entitled Recent Retirement Exercise, however, appreciated those affected, thanking them for their contributions to the group. The letter read in part:  “This year has been a very challenging one for us as a business. The unavailability of foreign exchange, coupled with an unprecendented hike in exchange rate has resulted in increased costs across the organisation. “This called for a proper review and adjustment of our costs across board to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in the deployment of our factors of production in a bid to eliminate redundancy that we know exist, which resulted in some tough decisions which means losing staff, including some of our colleagues.” “On Friday, October 14, 2016, we began the process of staff cutbacks as it is imperative to review our human capital deployment for required cutbacks that would ensure efficiency and eliminate redundancies in the allocation of human resources. “This first phase of this exercise involved the cutback of 36 expatriate staff across the Dangote Cement Plc and Dangote Industries Limited and 12 local staff in Dangote Industries Limited.” The group, however, promised that it would continue to review and restructure its human capital deployment to ensure optimal allocation of skill sets and size of workforce as an international organisation. The group urged its workers to shun late coming, improper dressing and other unsavoury behaviours in the workplace.

Why Do Nigerian Men Come Back Home To Marry?

This is something I’d like to understand, are there no good Nigerian women abroad? Most Nigerian men always want to come home to marry, sometimes virgins, they tell their parents to get them wives.

They say most women abroad are just good for citizenship papers, work permit, where to stay, do they even realize they hurt these women in the process? Using them like that and running back home to get married.

THUNDER FIRE THEM{THE ONE’S WHO USE WOMEN}

I see our men, asking for Nigerian wives, having fiancée back abroad; they come home to do secret weddings, impregnate their wives here and run back to their abroad lovers, what the hell is wrong with this generation?

We need to stop this form of fraud, and slavery, people aren’t toys to be used and discarded, and the funny thing is we don’t do it to white women alone, we do it to our own African sisters, we say once they get there they change, they don’t want to come back home, they report to the police when we hit them, they lie to get the house and child support, so we want someone who would listen to us and obey our every word and then they rush back home to marry one innocent girl they want to frustrate.

I am not against genuine men who want to come home to marry MBANU, I love LOVE, but when I see a man who thinks my African sisters are baby making machines, who they want to come home and impregnate every time, who they want to use as a tool to carry on their linage then I get angry, I get angry because they see us as a commodity, I get angry because they see us as a means to an end, I get angry because love isn’t an equator in this arrangement.

I wouldn’t blame all the men either, our women have become cheap cormorants over the years, searching the air like birds, sniffing a whiff of an abroad returnee who they want to perch on, leech on, suck and bleed dry, our women have seen these NDIOYIBOS as a means to an end, all they want to do is sit down at home, he opens up a business for them, and when he comes back they open their legs like a compass and be dutiful, the womb is ready to be filled for the next nine months.

We have become sardines, cornered into a space, waiting for the biggest to be picked, and then we jeer our peers, tell them oga de for obodo oyibo, sometimes we don’t care what our abroad husbands does for a living, we just want to sit back home, enjoy his money and sometimes Bleep the ones we love while he’s away.

There are good women abroad, and this habit I am sorry to say is common among the Igbo people of Nigeria, they go abroad and hustle and want to invest back home, i have no problem with this, but who will now marry that girl you have been deceiving there? Who will heal the heart of that white woman you have been deceiving.

These white women sef, you have used your heads to carry wahala, you agreed for an arrangee wedding and then you go fall in love, how low has your esteem fallen? Why do you want to make our African men worth nothing, you have frustrated them to the extent they see you as a thing to be used and discarded, when and how did you become scums that a black man will ride and plough you until he gets tired, haba na, oyibo pepper ogini, give our men peace so they can value you, not every small thing you will call police for them and everything he has saved all his life will be yours, please I am begging this needs to stop, don’t be the tool that will be used to unscrew the nut holding you heart.

Umu woke anyi, biko, gbaraa these white women, they have suffered, pity our African sisters, they have suffered to, anywhere you see love please settle down, love doesn’t come with a manual, it doesn’t base its foundation on ethnicity, religion, color or country, its pure like water and flows effortlessly like a calm stream, don’t in your search for something better end up with a viper.

LAGOS—Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS of the Lagos State Police Command, weekend, rescued a 15-year-old girl, who was allegedly abducted and turned into a sex slave by a tricycle operator in Agege area of Lagos. Dada Azeez, and his 15-year-old ‘girlfriend.’ Arrested alongside the suspect, identified as Dada Azeez, 28, was an alleged accomplice, Wasiu Agunbiade, in whose apartment the teenager was initially kept. The rescued teenager (names withheld), had N58,000 on her when she was abducted on October 5. The money belonged to her aunt, Mrs Gbemisola. She was, however, trailed to a one-room apartment at 7, Oseni Street, Danjuma Cinema area of Agege. The abduction saga took another twist after the suspect, Azeez, 28, claimed that the teenager was his girlfriend. He told the operatives that he had been in a clandestine relationship with the teenager since last year, claiming he abducted her because her aunt was against the relationship. According to Azeez, “we started having a secret affair about a year ago. But her sister frowned at our relationship when she got to know. I bought her a phone through which we communicated, and instructed her to keep it away from her aunty. “Whenever she intended to visit me, she would call and I would describe our meeting place for her. Then I thought it would be better for her to elope with me and started working on her psyche by buying her gifts to lure her into accepting to move in with me. “The day I made up my mind to abduct her coincided with the day she was sent on an errand. I did not know she was with such an amount of money. I only wanted to take her far away from her guardian for not supporting our relationship.” Her story The teenager alleged that she was used as a sex machine during her stay in Azeez’s hideout, saying she agreed to elope with him out of ignorance. According to her, “he forcefully had sex with me on the first day of my arrival and since then, he had been having sex with me without wearing condom. He slept with me anywhere, including at his friends’ place where he hid me for weeks. “I succumbed to him because I could not go back home. He collected the N58,000, which was a thrift contribution I was going to give to the owner. He fed me three times a day with the money.” I didn’t know she was abducted – Accomplice On his part, the alleged accomplice, Agunbiade, admitted that the teenager was kept in his apartment for just a night, claiming he never knew she was abducted. He said: “If I had known she was abducted, I would have advised him to return her to the parents. I never believed he could commit such crime. “He begged me to accommodate them for one night in my room. They left my place the following day to somewhere else. I regretted allowing them to pass the night in my place.” Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, said the suspects and the rescued girl had been transferred to the Agege Divisional Police, where the case was initially reported, before the RRS took it up. She warned parents and guardians against exposing their wards and children to social vices in their environment.

EPL: Ranieri hails Musa

Super Eagles vice captain, Ahmed Musa was in fine form yesterday for his English Premiership side, Leicester, scoring his first goal in the competition, even as he got thumbs up from Leicester’s Italian manager Claudio Ranieri.
Leicester secured a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace to move to the 12th position on the log, while Arsenal who could not win at home against Middlesbrough climbed to the top temporarily. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City could return to the top should they beat Southampton today at home. Chelsea would play host to Manchester United today in what no doubt is a Super Sunday clash.
Ranieri who was still basking in the euphoria of yesterday’s win was full of praise for Musa who he noted was getting better.
“Of course, Musa needed the goal. He’s a good player and for me it was important that he understands the Premier League because it’s different football. Now in the training sessions he’s getting better and has improved a lot and for this reason I played him today,” Ranieri told Leicester’s official website.
It would be noted that Musa who has been nominated for the African footballer of the year award has insisted on staying put in Leicester to fight for shirt rather than return to CSKA Moscow.
The Russian side had hinted that they would be not hesitate to re sign the Nigerian international if he fails to find his feet in Leicester.

$2.2bn arms deal: Chime moves to halt EFCC

INDICATIONS emerged yesterday that former governor of Enugu State, Sullivan Chime, ‎has commenced moves to stop his investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his involvement in looting the campaign fund for Enugu Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was allegedly part of the $2.2 billion arms fund shared to some states by the former NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
Sunday Sun gathered that Chime, worried by the anti-graft agency’s move, was mounting pressure‎ on his successor, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, to intervene.
According to a source, who is familiar with the issue, the anti-graft agency’s searchlight was beamed on Chime sequel to findings that he was a beneficiary of the slush funds from the $2.2 billion arms deal, for which the detained former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki, is being prosecuted.
The source said: “What I can confirm to you is that former Governor Chime is presently trying to stop his investigation by the EFCC over his involvement in looting the fund for Enugu PDP, which was part of the $2.2 billion shared to some states by the former NSA. As we speak, Chime is putting so much pressure on the present Governor to stop the prosecution of two of his former aides that have been indicted.”
Chime was reportedly quizzed recently by the anti-graft agency, but has not been charged to court. Other top PDP members who played key roles and got campaign funds from Dasuki had either been arrested or compelled to refund their own share of the loot.

An unidentified man was unlucky after a sex toy which he uses to maintain his erection got stuck to his Penis.

Speaking on the incident, one of the volunteer rescue workers, Jack Bansakul said:
‘The man put the metal alloy ring on his penis for some kind of sex game at home, I'm not sure if it was one he'd bought from a shop or something he found in the garage. But he hadn't measured himself properly and when his penis expanded he could not remove it.’

10 northern govs mission in Washington, by Kashim Shettima

The Chairman of Northern States Governors’ Forum, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, speaks on the mission of 10 northern governors to Washington, United States (US), last week.  The nine other governors who attended a three-day symposium for the northern states’ chief helmsmen organised by the United States Institute of Peace include the governors of Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Zamfara, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kwara and Niger.  The governor of Kano State was represented by his deputy. When I arrived at the entrance of the United States Institute of Peace a short while ago, I recalled the last time I was here in March 2014, when the Institute organized a security symposium for members of our forum. Since my last visit here, I can point to many benefits that my primary constituents—the people of Borno State— have derived, since they sponsored my trip here. The 2014 symposium was dominated by issues of security and the Boko Haram insurgency, of which Borno State was the epicenter. Shettima The discussions we had then must have contributed in many different ways to the commitment and responses of the United States Government and the international community in helping Nigeria to fight the insurgency. Our visit here in 2014 proved to be highly beneficial in the fight against Boko Haram, which affected Borno State the most but also had a destabilizing effect on nearly every other state in northern Nigeria and the country at large. Soon after that symposium, the United States government increased humanitarian and development support for Borno State through the United States Agency for International Development, USAID.   But then, my visit today for the 2016 symposium is not just about Borno State. My colleagues and I are here to seek benefits that should accrue to all the 19 northern states of Nigeria.   We look forward to many more benefits that will accrue to our region after this important symposium. Ongoing economic recession in Nigeria has made life very challenging for our citizens but the Federal and state governments are tackling it in many different ways. As you would shortly see in a 14-minute documentary, the North of Nigeria is grappling with all kinds of problems. This is no jamboree Your excellencies, ladies and gentlemen, by the time we wake up tomorrow, print, online and broadcast media houses in Nigeria would have screaming headlines, that “Ten Northern Governors Storm Washington” in the midst of economic recession, when our national currency, the Naira, has sharply depreciated against the U.S Dollar. Majority of our citizens will quickly conclude that we are here on a jamboree. Well, leadership isn’t only about popular decisions, leadership is about doing what is right at a time that is right. Our visit to Washington is an opportunity to re-engage with our American partners on the most vital issues that can help us to quickly make transition from volatility to a phase of peace and development in the Northern States of Nigeria. Over the past few years, we have realized that the indices of development in our region have not only been some of the most damning in our country, they have also been the background against which the problems in our region have manifested. These range from the deepening problems of Boko Haram, rural banditry, spontaneous religious and inter-tribal violence, deadly clashes between pastoralists and farmers, cattle rustling as well as the Mother of them all, which is pervasive poverty that gives birth to the many   forms of crime.    The emergence or the re-surfacing of insurgencies are not episodic events. They manifest through lingering processes which eventually symptomatized into aprons like Boko Haram and ISIS. We have the greatest respect and admiration for the American Government and we hold the United States Institute of Peace in very high esteem due to its track record. It is for these reasons that even though we anticipate criticism at home for this visit, we came here with high expectations. We believe that our hosts, USIP and officials of the U.S Government will work with us with the utmost sincerity of purpose to guarantee quick benefits that will improve the living conditions of our people. As Governors of the 19 Northern States, we hope to secure tangible benefits that we can point to our people as proof, that our visit here is not a jamboree as they would assume.   We in the Northern States Governors Forum recognize that our partnership with USIP is strategic. Some of the benefits we derive from this partnership include deepening cooperation towards eliminating conflicts. We may not be able to point this benefit tangibly to our people but we know for instance, that the United States is the world’s pre-eminent agricultural power and the number one food exporter. On the other hand, No land in the world is better suited for agricultural cooperation than Northern Nigeria. Girl-child education Your highly adored and respected first lady Mrs. Michelle Obama has a program for intervention on girl-child education in Africa. We eagerly look forward to benefit from this program as well as many other areas in which we can partner with our American friends to tackle our under-development and weak infrastructure. What is needed is the will and I can assure you that all the Governors of the Northern States here and those at home, are irrevocably committed to these partnerships in the service of our people. The Northern Nigeria provides a good eco-system for all developments and development partners. What we need is sincere will from our development partners and I am sure that our development partners have the will. Finally, on behalf of my colleagues, let me express our profound gratitude to the American Government, to the Board and officials of the United States Institute of Peace, to the United States Agency for International Development, to the European Union and to all partners who have stood in solidarity with us through development support in different parts of Northern Nigeria. We are also grateful to USIP for organizing this symposium that once again, brings the underdevelopment in Northern Nigeria to the front burner of discussion. But even as we discuss, we cannot ignore the fact that the outcome of the U.S election in 21 days to come, may affect   the full implementation of our goals after this symposium. Favorably, our country is not as close as Mexico for us to worry about a ‘wall’ that could come between our forum and the United States after January 20th. ladies and gentlemen, what works in today’s world is coming together with sincerity because like the American Henry Ford said, COMING TOGETHER IS A BEGINNING, KEEPING TOGETHER IS PROGRESS AND WORKING TOGETHER IS SUCCESS. We look forward to successful partnerships. Shettima, Governor of Borno State and Chairman of Northern States Governors’ Forum, delivered these remarks on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at the opening of a 3-day symposium for Northern Governors in Nigeria organized by the U.S Government hosted by the United States Institute of Peace in Washington that was attended by Governors of Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba, Zamfara, Adamawa, Bauchi, Kwara, Niger, Borno and Deputy Governor of Kano State.

EFCC Seizes Isah Yuguda's House

The private residence of the former governor of Bauchi State under the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has been seized and placed under investigation by the EFCC.

The multi-million naira mansion belonging to Mr Yuguda situated at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Street, GRA Bauchi was yesterday besieged by men of the anti graft agency who later placed it under investigation.

This new development might not be unconnected with the series of complaints and petitions filed against the former governor by the current Bauchi State government under Governor Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar to the EFCC.

I abandoned my degree in mass communication for welding – Alice, 53-yr-old graduate from LASU

The adverse socio-economic situation in the country has driven 53-year-old Alice Madumere Chikezie, a mass communication graduate from Lagos State University,LASU, into welding. Alice, who hails from Abia State, explained that she had refused to go into crime as a result of the economic recession rocking the country which has made life less meaningful. Leaving Lagos State out of frustration for Enugu, an optimistic Alice revealed that things took a nosedive since the advent of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration last year. Alice Madumere Chikezie Determined to survive, she quickly enrolled to learn welding. She said that life stood on its head for her, early last year when she could not pay for her accommodation and was practically borrowing to eat one meal a day. After acquiring requisite knowledge in welding, she relocated from Lagos to Enugu where she believed she will not suffer ‘familiarity complex’ from family members and friends arising from her entry into the male dominated trade. At Ibagwa-Nike Primary School where Alice operates a workshop, she told Sunday Vanguard:  “I had worked as a sales girl in many companies in Lagos. At a point, early last year, the centre could no longer hold and i had to learn welding  and metal works. When I started, I could not different between 12mm and 16mm iron. But with time, i started learning. I was learning the trade and schooling in LASU. “I went to school in order to have a sound footing in life. I have B.Sc. in mass communication, print option from LASU. But seeing the turn of events in the country, i quickly learnt welding. I had looked for job without success because age factor also became a barrier to me. Most employers want to employ younger people but I am above fifty. That is how it dawned on me that I could get a job anywhere. My age was partly responsible for my decision to go into welding. I did not have any choice. A woman in male dominated job “This job is male dominated, so the challenges inherent are enormous. Most times, when i go to canvass for jobs, clients look down on me and turn me down because it is a male dominated job. But i have remained resolute and some of the people i have done jobs for recommend me and bring more customers to me. It has been very challenging. Most areas, as you can see in the course of this job, require physical strength. That is partly where i find it challenging too. But i must always find a way around it. “I would love to expand the business and train more female welders to enable them become self-reliant, rather than go into crime that will always be detrimental. If government can provide soft loans, grants that will enable me expand my business, I would be grateful”.

Ozil treble, Sanchez gem inspire rampant Arsenal

Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez showed why their value to Arsenal is priceless as the peerless duo inspired a 6-0 thrashing of Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets in the Champions League on Wednesday. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has urged Ozil and Sanchez not to get greedy after reports they both plan to demand Arsenal increase their wages to £250,000-per-week ($307,000, 279,000 euros) when contract talks are reopened later this month. Sanchez and Ozil’s current deals expire in 2018, but Arsenal want their prize assets to commit their long-term futures to the club and on the evidence of their swaggering displays at the Emirates Stadium, they should pay them whatever they want. Sanchez was the catalyst for Arsenal’s romp as the former Barcelona star netted his sixth goal of the season with a quite brilliant first half chip, while German midfielder Ozil smashed a second half hat-trick. Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were also on the scoresheet for rampant Arsenal, who are top of Champions League Group A after three matches and well on course for the last 16. Unbeaten in Europe this season, Arsenal have now won seven successive matches in all competitions. Making four changes from the team that beat Swansea on Saturday, Wenger called for his players to keep their foot on the gas after building some impressive momentum in recent weeks and the response was emphatic. After scoring twice against Swansea, Walcott had a golden opportunity to extend his hot streak when Sanchez picked him out unmarked inside the penalty area. With only Ludogorets goalkeeper Vladislav Stoyanov to beat, Walcott strangely opted for a cross and his scuffed delivery was easily cleared. Walcott’s faux pas was never likely to derail Arsenal for long as they cut through the Ludogorets defence time and again before taking the lead in the 12th minute. – Prime form – Taking possession on the left edge of the Ludogorets penalty area after beating the Bulgarians’ attempted offside trap, Sanchez looked up and lofted a majestic chip that arched over Stoyanov before nestling into the far corner. While Arsenal were in prime form going forward, they were less convincing at the back and Wanderson threatened with a stinging drive that forced David Ospina into action. Breached again moments later, Arsenal were saved by Ospina, who raced off his line and barely got to the ball before colliding with Virgil Misidjan, who appealed in vain for a penalty. Ospina also had to be alert to block on the edge of the area before Wanderson fired against the woodwork from the rebound. Walcott misfired again when he blasted straight at Stoyanov from close-range, but he made amends in the 42nd minute. Given time to size up his shooting chances 25 yards from goal, Walcott punished Ludogorets’ slack marking with a superb shot that flashed past the slow-to-react Stoyanov. With their chances of taking even a point looking forlorn, Ludogorets faded in the second half and Oxlade-Chamberlain pounced on Kieran Gibbs’ half-cleared cross to score Arsenal’s third goal from 10 yards in the 46th minute. Wenger’s men weren’t finished yet and Ozil made it four when he raced onto Santi Cazorla’s superb long pass and drilled a low strike past Stoyanov in the 56th minute. There was still time for Ozil to improve his own bid for a bumper new deal as he struck again with a cool finish in the 83rd minute. Ozil completed his hat-trick in the 87th minute when he blasted home with a fierce close-range volley.

Army lied, JTF intentionally killed Izu Joseph in his wife's presence - Family

The family of Izu Joseph, the Shooting Star Sports Club player who was killed by military operatives in his hometown of Okaki, Ahoada West LGA of Rivers State on Sunday 16 October 2016, has spoken.

Joseph's father, in contrary to Army claims that the footballer was seen with cultists, blasted security operatives for shooting his son at close range.

Reuben Izu lamented:
"He was in Okaki with his wife before he died. He had planned to come to Port Harcourt where I live with his daughter.

"He went to the jetty area where we usually swim to have a quick shower on Sunday. It was while he was there that the men of the JTF raided the place and everybody ran helter-skelter, including Joseph.

"When the soldiers saw them running they began shooting sporadically and one of the bullets hit Joseph in the leg. As he was groaning with pain, one of the JTF men walked up to him and shot him a second time at a close range despite Joseph’s plea that he was a footballer on holiday in Okaki.

"His mobile phone and identity card were seized from him and we have not been able to retrieve them till now. The soldiers didn’t allow anybody to help him until he lost a lot of blood. After they left, he was taken to the hospital where he died due to loss of blood."

I usually steal N50 to buy food, boy beaten to death by father told neighbour

THE 10-year-old Adekoya Wariz, who was beaten to death by his father in Ijebu-Igbo area of Ogun State, once told a neighbour, Baba Olaolu, that he usually stole N50 from his step-mother’s handbag because he needed it to buy gari and groundnut, as he was always denied food. According to Olaolu, Wariz’s step-mother would tell his father that the money Wariz stole was N200 or more, resulting in constant beating, without getting a chance to tell his side of the story. Meanwhile, Wariz’s 37-year-old father, Rasaq Adekoya, has expressed regret, saying his intention was not to kill him. Adekoya, a Muslim cleric, told detectives at the homicide section of the Ogun State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department, CIID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, that his son, Wariz, slumped while he was beating him, over an allegation that he stole a phone at a social function. He also accused his late son of always stealing his step-mother’s money. Vanguard gathered that Rasaq got married to a second wife, after separating from his first wife and mother of late Wariz. Neighbours alleged that late Wariz, a primary school pupil, had been subjected to battering, at the slightest provocation, from his father who always accused him of stealing his wife’s money. One of his neighbours, Bosede Ayodele said Rasaq Adekoya was once reported to security agents and was cautioned.      ‘I stole to buy food’ Another neighbours, who gave his name as Baba Olaolu, said: “We have warned Alfa (suspect) several times to desist from beating his son, but he would not listen. He accused him of always stealing his wife’s money. “At a point, I invited the boy to find out why he was always stealing. But he told me that he usually took the money to buy food any time he was hungry. “He also revealed that most times, he went to school on empty stomach and by the time he would return home, there would be no food. “He said he would be tempted to steal N50 from his step mother’s hand bag, which he used to buy gari and groundnut. He also claimed that at times, he would end up going to bed without food. “He also claimed that his step-mother usually lied against him by claiming that the amount stolen was N200 or above and that his father would not give him any chance to explain his side of the story. “When the battering became too much, we contacted his mother who lives in Lagos State, to come for her son. She kept promising to do so until this happened.”   ‘I didn’t mean to kill him’ However during interrogation, the suspect said he did not intentionally kill his son. Explaining what happened, Adekoya said: “Wariz stole a phone at a party. When the news reached me, I was very bitter and at the same time ashamed that a child I gave birth to could disgrace me publicly by stealing other people’s things. “That was not the first time he had stolen. He usually stole money belonging to his step-mother, despite the fact that we did not starve him of food. When I called him to ask where he kept the stolen phone, he could not give any reason for stealing or revealed where the phone was. “Out of annoyance, I descended on him without knowing it would lead to his death.”

Why Do Most Nigerian Men Develop A Pot Belly Stomach So Early

Yes, many Nigerian women develop a pot belly stomach too as soon as they start getting pregnant and giving birth. A good reason for that.

What i don't really understand is why you find many Nigerian men with protruding stomachs, the most annoying part is seeing young men who are just in their thirties and some not even yet married with such protruding bellies. Do you guys get pregnant and deliver babies too? I mean how hard is it to go to the gym regularly and ensure you keep fit?
Some stark lazy ones, once they just get married, they start ordering their wives to pound yam for them every night, eating and boozing carelessly without control.

I am not excusing our women on this too, all am saying is that women have good reasons why they loose their shape after marriage, but men have no goddamn excuse.

Evangelist And Medical Doctor Get Married After 10 Years Of Dating

I saw this Facebook post the other day and found that this couple Anthony and Vanessa Igbinosun who started dating in 2006 and just got married in 2016. I was amazed oh. Honestly, I was inspired but I know the probability of such happening nowadays is close to zerogrin The guy is now an evangelist and lady is a medical doctor. Here's what the guy wrote on his wall:

When you marry your bestfriend, life becomes an adventure. Don't make that mistake: don't settle for less. Don't get married to someone who you will discover tomorrow that they were not really the type of person you wanted to marry. Don't marry out of pity or guilt: marry out of purpose. Marry someone that you will not be afraid or ashamed to reveal your true self to. Adam and Eve were Unclad before each other and neither of them was ashamed. Marry someone who doesn't bore you. Marry someone whose primary joy comes from giving you joy. Don't marry someone who cannot be moved by your tears. Marry someone who can get angry with you and protect you with his own life at the same time. Marry someone you are attracted to. Marry God's best for your life and you will not regret it. — feeling blessed.

After the white man, the next most important person made by God was Igbo—Ekwueme quotes northerners

Dr. Alex Ekwueme, the SECOND Republic vice president of Nigeria, has explained the need for Igbos to trust each other as they did in the past, affirming that that is the only way Igbo land would move forward in the Nigeria project.
Dr. Ekwueme, who said this Sunday at the traders’ summit and award ceremony organized by Anambra Consensus Project, ACP, at Amaokpala in Orumba Norht local government area of the state; to honour outstanding traders in all the 57 major markets in Anambra State, noted that he recalled that Igbo were strongly united before and immediately after Nigerian Independence wondering what went wrong over the years based on what is currently happening in the Igbo –speaking states of the country.
“When I returned to Nigeria after my studies abroad, I worked for the then ESSO West Africa Limited and the job took me to many cities in the Northern part of the country. I found out that there was no place you would go and won’t find an Igbo man and they all cooperated well” If you wanted to buy APC medicine in any city in the North, whether it was Kano, Maiduguri, Kaduna, Bauchi, Bida, Minna, anywhere, it was an Igbo person that would sell it to you. Igbo people were so industrious that Northerners were saying that after the white man, the next most important person created by God was Igbo”.
He continued:
“When Igbo was Igbo, there was so much unity, such that once Igbo leaders met and took a decision, every Igbo person would abide by it. The trust among Igbo was responsible for the reason apprenticeship became popular with the result that parents would allow their children to stay with an established Igbo man to learn a trade for periods ranging from five to 10 years after which the apprentice would then be settled to start his own business.
“Even after the settlement, the newly settled young trader would be getting goods on credit from his former master and return the money after sale because of the trust that existed. But lack of trust has diminished that age long cooperation between the master and his former apprentice, which is very worrisome. “The main problem of the Igbo today is lack of trust. If we can rebuild the trust among ourselves, our people will be better for it.”

Why I Wash My Wife's Clothes - Nigerian Man

I consider myself to be a very conservative person. Some people even call me old-fashioned. I grew up believing that a woman should be the one cooking, taking care of the kids, etc. However I didn't have this perception because I considered women inferior. I just felt that was the right thing, maybe based on the traditional values inherent in the African society. I also believed that the man should be the main- if not only- contributor of money in the family. That was years ago.

Today, as a married man, my views have completely changed. One weekend, my wife was doing house chores while I was on my laptop working on my novel, trying to meet a deadline. Although I was focused on my work, at the back of my mind I noticed that the sound of plates changed to the sound of a broom and then the sound of clothes being washed. Immediately, I was alarmed. I thought, 'Wait, is she doing all that work alone?! And she never called for assistance?!' Immediately, I left what I was doing and told her to stop, take a rest and tell me what was left to do so that I could do it.

When I was done, I realised that my mentality had changed. You see, love is always greater than a sense of 'duty'. You don't need to force a real man to share the responsibilities of house chores like washing, cleaning, taking care of the baby, cooking, etc. Any man who truly loves his wife will not be able to bear the thought of leaving her to bear the burden alone. Let us cast aside the mentality of 'this is a woman's duty, that is a man's duty'. Even the Bible supports a man washing plates (2 Kings 21:13) and a woman providing financially for the family (Prov 31:11-23).

What is most important is this: we want to achieve something and we work together to achieve it. If she earns more than I do, then she can contribute more to the family financial goals than I do. If she is working outside while I work from home or return earlier from work, why can't I be the one taking care of the baby, feeding and cleaning his/her 'bum bum' after pooing? If you think these things make you less of a man, then you were never a man in the first place. There is nothing like 'duties of a man' and 'duties of a woman'. However, for the sake of effectiveness, division of labour can be implemented but not because of 'duty'. The man can end up taking cooking responsibilities and the woman takes the work of car-washing. Doesn't matter!

On another day, my lovely wife cooked a delicious meal of very peppery Oha soup littered with pomo, fish, meat, etc etc, just the way I love it. I told her, 'Thank you so much for going to the market and cooking this food. Honestly, I'm grateful.' She looked at me, surprised and said 'Why are you thanking me for such a thing? It's my duty.' Immediately, I told her it's not her duty to cook but her choice and that's why I was very thankful. The first time I tried washing her clothes we almost had a serious disagreement. She kept saying 'It's not right, it's not right. You shouldn't wash my clothes.' Then I threatened to also restrict her from touching mine. At that point we were able to reach an agreemen.

What's the point of this message? My wife and I equally belong to the kitchen, to the living room and...well, to the other room . God bless you!
